A great singer, a wonderful person, for many aspiring jazz vocalists Lilia Chugunova is an inspiration to follow.
As a child, she did not even think that her life would be connected with the career of a musician, singer, although at school, together with her classmates, she organized an ensemble, for which she laid out voices by ear, playedd songs on the guitar.
Then there were classes at the House of Officers with the soloist of the opera theater and teacher Yuri Golovinsky, who tried in vain to make an academic vocalist out of Lilia, but thanks to these classes, she got the basics of proper breathing and vocal technique.
An attempt to enter a music college was not successful because of Lilia's not classic manner of singing, there was not enougth time to prepare for admission to the theater college, thus she had to work in a field that was not very creative, and later Lilia entered the Institute of Culture at the stage director's department.
Nevertheless, her fortune led Lilia Chugunova to where she was supposed to get to - Sergei Kozhevnikov, the head of the amateur art ensemble in which Lilia sang, suggested that she try herself as a vocalist in the Victor Dering Orchestra. “Seryozha dragged me by the collar to the audition. I was afraid, I resisted... It's was scary, after all, 20 people in the orchestra, what kind of jazz, I don't know anything, horror, where did I go... I was shaking, pounding with fear. And it all ended with the fact that he listened, and yes! ... I was hired ... ".
Since 1988 debut with the Viktor Dering orchestra on the stage of the Kazan Youth Center, Lilia Chugunova has become its permanent soloist.
She performed at all Kazan festivals "Jazz Crossroads", as well as in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Kursk, Togliatti, Naberezhnye Chelny, Poland and Turkey, participated in the show "Battle of the Choirs" and "Voice".
Lilia Chugunova annually presents jazz programs and also teaches vocals at the "Vocal Is" studio and Oleg Lundstrem
